Course introduces students to participatory processes that can be utilized in many fields, from urban planning to organizational innovation processes. The course focuses on development of the urban environment. Participatory processes seek to achieve active participation by all members of a group in a decision making process. The course focuses on methods and tools that can be utilized in organizing participatory processes in different fields.
After taking this course, the student is able to identify the pros and cons of participatory processes and select suitable tools and techniques to organize such events. The student also understands the innovative value of the multi-stakeholder approach in different planning and development activities. A a more general level, the course aims to advance the student’s mindset towards open innovation and working in multidisciplinary environments.

Content: Planning and power. Planning and conflict. Deliberative practice. Stakeholder analysis. Teacher: Eira Rosberg (PhL)

Content: Participation processes in urban and regional planning, cases. City Architect Harri Kuivalainen
Thursday 9th of February 2012, 13:00 – 17:00 From confrontation to co-creation.
Content: Facilitation and group dynamics. Practical methods - how to manage dynamics of co-creation. Teachers: Anne Pässilä (MA) & Virpi Koskela (MA)
Thursday 23rd of February 2012, 13:00 – 17:00 Exploring citizen e-participation.
